Looking south down C Street from the center of town. The
main building in the center is the Territorial Enterprise newspaper
building, which was built in 1876. The Enterprise building in which
Mark Twain worked during the early 1860s burned down in 1875. It
was located several blocks from this location. Although the building's
owners call it the "Mark Twain Museum," it has little
to do with Mark Twain. However, it has a nicely preserved newspaper
printing office in its basement. The upstairs has a gift shop and
a small museum area. Farther down the same side of C Street is the
Comstock Firemen's Museum, which has original fire-fighting equipment
restored and displayed by the members of the VC volunteer fire department.
Nearby is the Mark Twain Bookstore. |
